"Reading is Fundamental"




Continuing right along, it's time to discuss the possibility of more books (not included in the traditional Protestant or Catholic canons) being the inspired word of our Creator.

Let's take a peek at The Book of Mormon, including both historical and archaeological angles, which are both incredibly important.

First, I am going to make a couple of definitive statements:

1) The plates in question are going to be unearthed and studied intensively.
2) It is a well-known fact that people tell lies and half truths all of the time, for their own selfish reasons.

That being said, let's entertain (without ever seeing the plates in question) the possibility that some of these books are indeed canonical, and are the inspired word of God. I am going to highlight a few books that got my attention. They include 1 Nephi, 2 Nephi, and Jacob.

What theory could possibly explain Native American genocide on a wide scale, and the American (Israeli) principle of Manifest Destiny?

Could it be a failure to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

It's a point worth pondering, and it's something that will be discussed properly at length later.

I'll redirect my attention toward the controversy surrounding the Talmud, because it merits some discussion.
Some notable ideas explored inside:

1) Pedophilia is an acceptable practice.
2) Jesus is currently in Hell, being boiled in a pot of excrement.

Too much discussion surrounding this is steeped in Antisemitism, but these are discussions worth having in our society.

I must also make the observation that the Sabbath is indeed Saturday.
It is a simple truth.

Another simple truth?
Only men are supposed to pastor churches.

The Unitarian Universalist belief system is simply and fundamentally not biblical.
It is actually heretical.

One last point before ending this letter?
Your personal business is between you and God.
There is no need for a middleman.

By the Book.

I'd like to take a moment and discuss what most Christian churches consider to be their canon.
Not out of boredom or the mere need to be provocative, but because it is necessary.

After some self-admittedly limited research (but rather thorough analysis), it appears to me that most of the Catholic bible is canonical, and there may be some books existing outside of this collection that are canonical as well.

How do you sort through what seems to be mass confusion, disarray, and sometimes even anger?

Sober spiritual assessment, prayer, and a meeting of minds who are genuinely interested in finding the truth.

We start with the principle that a book cannot be canonical if it is inconsistent with the principles already existent in the rest of known and accepted scripture. It's a very simple rule of thumb.

We can begin, for example, with the Book of Judith.

One may quibble over the details of this particular story (potential transcription errors), but what can one potentially glean from past historical events that actually did take place? What can this tell us about the battle over climate change that has taken place even within the past year? (Yes, climate change is real. Yes, it is anthropogenic, but "anthropogenic" takes on an entirely new context here.)

Another book I care to highlight for discussion right now is 2 Esdras.

This apparently canonical book of prophecy seems to reveal some meaningful discussion and insight concerning the Apocalypse, and even the Reptilian nature amongst other things.
To me, there seems to be a smoking gun here, but further discussion seems to be warranted.

We can talk more later concerning matters like these, but our time seems to be limited.

"The Mask of Sanity"




I'd like to share a chapter from another book that has been highly influential in my life, and that would be the seminal work "The Mask of Sanity," written by Dr. Hervey Cleckley.

I'll share chapter 40, titled "The Clinical Alcoholic" for further clarification.

"The term clinical alcoholic is chosen for convenience to signify the large group of
pathologic drinkers who are still making some genuine effort to adjust in normal life but
are using drink to escape reality which they cannot quite face and, by a vicious cycle,
making themselves steadily more inadequate to face this reality. Such drinkers may, in
several respects, be contrasted with the psychopath (antisocial personality) just as the
non-alcoholic neurotic contrasts with the psychotic patient.
 

Like the psychopath, their drinking is not primarily for pleasure or has at least
ceased to afford much pleasure. They often give a strong impression of drinking to
avoid sober self-appraisal or some other aspect of reality. With alcohol they can remain
a little more comfortably and longer in the false world of fantasy or in analgesia. They are often introverted people, often tenderminded and shy. Alcohol enables them to be less self-conscious and to make their way with greater ease into the social group. They become more and more disabled for real life, and reverses due directly or indirectly to their alcoholism accumulate, making it ever
more urgent for them to escape into the numbness of drink.


To a certain point this picture is not unlike that of the psychopath. Perhaps the
psychopath sometimes arrives at his life scheme by way of phases almost identical with
those of some neurotic drinkers, and perhaps the neurotic drinker may regress to levels
at which he can be plainly recognized as a psychopath. Some of the patients described
here as partial psychopaths might be placed by some observers in the class of neurotic
drinkers.


For the purpose of drawing a useful distinction, however, the following points
are offered:
Often the neurotic drinker wants to get well. This may not be obvious, but with
proper psychiatric treatment it may be possible to obtain sincere cooperation. Although
the neurotic drinker lacks insight and often cannot get well by his unaided efforts, he
retains a capability of gaining insight, and good improvement is often possible under
treatment. The psychopath's actual conduct when drinking, and sometimes when sober,
is bizarre, often shameful and shocking, and actively damaging to himself. In the neurotic drinker such tendencies, if present, are much less pronounced. The neurotic drinker on his spree is unintentionally destroying his chances for success and happiness, but this does not appear to be his fundamental aim; his fundamental aim apparently is to avoid facing his failures. Although this aim may be present in the established psychopath, it is not easily or regularly discernible. The latter appears to be driving primarily at evading, or ignoring, or destroying life itself, that is to
say, life in the sense of social attainments and subjective integration.


Drinkers who can be classed as neurotic show better capacity for insight and may
come voluntarily to seek treatment or may be persuaded by relatives to do so. The
psychopath will not come voluntarily, except when he seeks hospitalization to avoid
legal action, and he cannot be persuaded to carry out sincerely any therapeutic program.
To summarize, then, it may be said that the neurotic drinker is capable of insight
and wants to get well. 


The psychopathologic picture is more readily comprehensible in
terms of cause and effect and, under favorable conditions, is perhaps reversible. The
psychopath, on the other hand, despite his superficial appearance of being a normal
man, shows in his whole behavior pattern deviation and disorder that seem
fundamental. His real drives, when one tries to surmise them from his reactions, strike the observer as foreign to ordinary human impulse. The process, if reversible at all, is not ordinarily found to
be so. Apparently there is no latent insight that can be aroused or sincere desire to
become well or, rather, to become like other men. I do not mean to state dogmatically
that the psychopath's illness is irreversible but merely that in my own experience it has,
in typical cases, proved to be so. It may be said that the process of schizophrenia as
compared with hysteria is relatively less reversible, that it ordinarily brings about a
greater and deeper disintegration of the personality. Despite this fact, schizophrenics
often recover. Perhaps the psychopath, too, can recover. Perhaps some generally
satisfactory means of treating him can eventually be devised.


Taking the group of chronic alcoholics as a whole, we are likely to find here
people in whom the excessive drinking is a common symptom of underlying disorders
that vary widely in type and in degree somewhat as we might say that fever may arise
from a bad cold, measles, pneumonia, tuberculosis, meningitis, and other differing
illnesses too numerous to list. Alcoholics Anonymous, whose excellent work it is appropriate to mention here, has, in my experience with this group as a whole, appeared to be one of the most
valuable therapeutic agencies available. Many gravely maladjusted patients in whom
alcoholism was at the same time a disabling symptom and a secondary but major causal
agent in disastrous life patterns have, through this agency and its program, made
changes and progress that with no exaggeration can be called remarkable. Some
patients whose behavior and emotional attitudes definitely suggested the psychopath's
disorder have to my knowledge not only avoided for years the disabling effects of their
former drunkenness but also other unrewarding and antisocial activities. Whether or
not these were psychopaths in the full and deepest sense is not a question that can be
answered confidently. It is my belief that this type of disorder, like all other psychiatric disorders, may
be seen in almost limitless variations of degree and severity. 


We see the utterly disorganized schizophrenic who has for twenty years been on the worst ward of a state hospital, and we also see schizoid reactions and limitations that persist for decades in
people who continue to be self-supporting and to a considerable degree socially
competent. I recall one patient who has expressed to me delusions typical of full-blown
schizophrenia over some years and who is still an able worker with many pleasant social
relations and recreational activities. Many more come to mind whose delusions are less
extreme but who for decades have manifested autistic withdrawal, oddities, emotional
distortions, and impairments consistent only with a schizoid reaction. We also see manifestations identical with those of full-blown schizophrenia in every respect except their transiency. A 30-year-old man who, after taking a small dose of testosterone, experienced not only hallucinatory sexual and spiritual sensations within himself but also in others will serve as an excellent example. Vivid delusions were very prominent for approximately a week. These included an absolute conviction that all virtuous women at the mere sight of him caught the impact of magic, glowed with a fire
both erotic and holy, and were visibly transformed. It was also his belief that this
caused harlots who might sense his powers a block off to run up alleyways in shame.
 

For several days, through false perceptions, he specifically "felt" men and women some
miles away responding viscerally, intellectually, and spiritually, and in diverse ways, to
what had miraculously become incarnate in his person. After being psychotic for a
week and without specific treatment, he regained insight, lost his schizophrenic
symptoms, and has for a number of years remained entirely free of them. In the other disorder, that of the psychopath, I believe there also occur similar variations in chronicity, in severity, in completeness, in depth, and in every other respect. Although malignancy and irreversibility seem typical of the psychopathology as we meet it clinically in its advanced or long fixed forms, outwardly similar behavioral and characterologic patterns sometimes prove reversible. 


Few, if any, features of the full psychopath are more impressive than his inability to respond with consistent acts or in other ways that would indicate deep or genuine desire to change his situation. In
therapeutic programs it is characteristic of him not to make valid or persistent efforts to
cooperate. In their relations with Alcoholics Anonymous, psychopaths sometimes show
at first what seems extraordinary zeal, sincerity, and promise, only to reveal after varying
intervals that the whole matter was only a sort of prank or lightly taken adventure in
versatile careers of self-ruin.


Fundamental points in the Alcoholics Anonymous system of group therapy and
self-reorganization are the following:
1. The need for a most profound intention (an authentic and major desire) to
overcome one's disability.
2. The necessity for extensive and basic changes in attitude and orientation at the
core of the personality.


At both of these points we find in the full psychopath an almost uniquely
unfavorable situation. Although I know of nothing available today that can be counted
on to succeed regularly, the evidence has suggested that Alcoholics Anonymous may in
some cases affect favorably latent resources very difficult to reach by most methods in
patients showing reactions that may have something in common with those of the
typical psychopath."
 


In almost 5 years of experience in Washington, I can say without a doubt that the town is indeed, well, "crazy."

"Let's Get Technical." (Pt. 1)

Technology, like money, is not inherently bad in and of itself.
It can also be used to do good, make our lives easier, or more convenient.

After doing the required research, one way I noticed that society could be improved is through the wireless transmission of energy and information. Telephone poles, wires, and "conventional" methods have been holding us back for quite some time. Just like most other people, I get tired of power and information outages that occur during/after inclement weather strikes my area.

Inventor Nikola Tesla began transmitting electricity wirelessly over 100 years ago. Although this is not a new concept, he died broke and penniless at the age of 86 in 1943.

Concerning the nature of this wireless transmission of RF energy, a few general facts should be made plain:

1) It is of high-voltage, but also high-frequency.
In other words, it is totally harmless concerning human exposure.

"In the early 1970's, (William) Hooper had been showing that not all electrical fields are the same. What he called a "motional electric field" was different from the well-known electrostatic fields; the motional electric field results in a force that passes through lead. In other words, the field is unshieldable."- "Angels Don't Play This HAARP" (1997)

2) It can be transmitted over 20 miles in this fashion.

In order to make technological and service advancements like this happen, things would have to be shaken up in the corporate world: mergers and cooperation amongst both information and energy interests.

What are some potential fixes/outcomes of these changes?

- "Flex Fuel" capability to power the turbines that create energy (coal could be phased out for natural gas over time in accordance with free-market principles). Natural gas is cheap, (33% more) efficient (than gasoline), and will become ubiquitous in nature over the coming years.

- Receivers of wireless energy can be placed indoors, avoiding vandalism and vulnerability.

- Reduced staffing at energy and information conglomerates.
This means lower rates.
(Think in the 50% range.)

This also opens up the possibility for localized/personalized, right-sized solutions for high-speed bandwidth access, bringing the internet into reach for more of those who may just have to currently go without, due either to prohibitive cost or geographical reasons.

One potential issue that will arise for some people is loss of use of their kitchen ranges when and if their services were to be shut off.

- Potentially eating corn instead of burning it in our fuel tanks.
Any time you can lower rates or costs, improve services, and increase the expendable income of the average person, this is a plus.

A Better Mousetrap?




It's no secret: the roll-out of the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare") has been an unmitigated disaster.

Glitchy and buggy website aside, there have been quite a few problems with the program.
One of the first that comes to mind is the fact that regardless of what the President said regarding people's ability to keep their health care plans, many people received letters from their carriers stating that they actually would not be able to.

This begs a question.
"How could you put together a better, more efficient health care program?"

Here are few ideas on how it could be possible.

1) Allow people to keep their current plans and doctors if they wish, as promised.

2) Create a larger, international policy exchange that would stretch across international borders.
When insurance carriers compete, you win.

3) Modify the Medicare program so that:

- Those without insurance (no matter what age) could enroll in the program.

- Periodic (just prior to payday, for example), computerized reporting of hours (and wages) would be automatically tracked and sent out to federal authorities. This type of system would help to accurately determine one's eligibility for subsidies, as well as eliminate the need for federal income tax filings. You would just be required to notify your employer(s) of any change in your tax status. You could even reduce the numbers of I.R.S. agents on the rolls. Efficiency is the key, and who likes being harassed?

- Over time, the program would shift from a single-payer model to a subsidized, free-market-based, voucher-run exchange program. One cannot take funds designated for health care funding to buy an iPhone, for example. This would also minimize disruption for those currently in retirement, and approaching retirement.

4) Set up an e-mail based prayer request website.
It would contain drop-down menus and the ability to group similar issues together in a neat, tidy filing and sorting system. You would receive an e-mail notification telling you when your request has been noted and acted upon. You could proceed from there. A small one-time fee (I am a union member) would be required to help subsidize the overhaul and ensure a smooth transition for all of those involved. People waste money on all sorts of ridiculous things on a continuous basis. What value do you place upon your health?

5) With less need for both complex and simple procedures and practices (Oncology, Orthopedic surgery, Cardiology, etc.), the cream would be required to rise to the top. Only the best doctors and prospects would be retained, and their skills could be sharpened and retained using animals for practice. Minimum standards of care would be required, such as making sure someone is available to take care of you at a hospital, and the assurance that you wouldn't be required to travel an inordinate amount of distance to receive the care that you need. Doctors who would be let go could receive vocational training and schooling to place them in a new profession or field of study to keep them gainfully employed. It is obviously not practical to have such an overhaul occur overnight. This would take a few years to take place.

These ideas would help to curb and reduce soaring health care costs.
There's more than one way to skin a cat.

"The Devil is in the Details"

There's quite a bit of business to attend to, so let's get down to the nitty-gritty, and that centers around the hub that we call the nation of Iran. The devil is in the details, as they say.

Now that chemical disarmament in Syria has been set in motion (how successful the process will be is an open question), and a devastating strike on Iran (precipitating a civil war there that will eventually give rise to the Antichrist) has been offset by (give or take) a couple of decades (see Daniel 11, as well as prophecies about Egypt), we can discuss a few important topics, like the absurd notion of Iran nuking Israel.

Iran, you see, is an overwhelmingly Shiite nation. One of the core tenets of Shia Islam is the belief in the 12th, or "Hidden" Imam, or "Mahdi," (The Antichrist) and his lieutenant "Jesus" (The False Prophet spoken of in Revelation), whose sole aim (which will not be realized) will be the creation of a worldwide Islamic caliphate. He will be a hybrid character, possessing both immense political savvy as well as immense spiritual prowess. He is to play dual roles of a state executive as well as a high priest. The only thing is, there is nothing holy about this man. He is supposed to be Allah's chief representative, but he is a deceiver and a turncoat. He will, in fact, reveal his true colors as Satan's human protege and right hand man. Certainly, I am implying that he will deceive even Muslims. (One thing that is important here to remember is that religion here is nothing but means to specific ends for him: power, theft, death, and destruction. It means absolutely nothing to him, it is merely a vehicle).

He will proclaim to be God himself, and demand to be worshiped as God. He will persecute and execute those within his sphere of influence who dare to oppose him and stick to their religious convictions. His powers are derived from the satanic realm, as are the False Prophet's named "Jesus," who can make fire rain down from the sky. This may cause much confusion, as one might imagine, and it will.

The absurdity of the claim that Iran would nuke Israel and irradiate the temple that their long-awaited Mahdi is going to desolate is not only counter-intuitive, it is absolutely ludicrous. It's one of his main goals, so why would any Shia Muslim who feels it is their life mission from Allah to usher in their last and most powerful prophet and king nuke this temple that is oh-so coveted? They wouldn't, because it just doesn't add up. As a matter of fact, in 2005, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was widely misquoted as saying that Israel should be "wiped off the map," when that was not what he was implying. Although I will stand for Israel's right to exist until the very end, I will not back Zionist lies, propaganda, and warmongering in the slightest.

Pivoting back to Syria, although the U.N inspectors did conclude that Sarin gas was indeed used in the recent attacks on civilian populations in Syria, it shed no conclusive light on just who fired the munitions. Therefore, it is impossible to draw any responsible conclusions from the report, base any drastic actions upon it, nor warmonger or pontificate based upon it. In my humble opinion, it is best to keep U.S. forces out of the situation, be they on the ground, in the air, or in the form of covert operatives behind the scenes. It is not our war, it is not our business, and we should at no point be involved (Unless it is with simple things like bread. How much bread could you donate at the cost of just one simple Tomahawk missile? Just a thought.).

I want my countrymen of every race, color, creed, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion that I will lobby tirelessly for good jobs, sound national security, top-notch affordable health care, sound and fair banking, sound currency, and fair treatment for all.

I want Israel to know that as long as I am around, they will be safe and sound (Jeremiah 33:14-18).

I want the world to know that I will lobby tirelessly with my American colleagues for peace, goodwill, and amicable, fair relations whenever and wherever possible. I want our friends around the world to know that they have a staunch ally here in the United States as we turn the page into the next century. Open hand to open hand.

Now that we begin to pivot toward the home front, and dare I say "peace," let's focus on sprucing this place up, cutting the fat, and turning America into what we know it really could be.

We're going to turn some dreams into a reality.

Shutdown.

Well, we're right up against the deadline for the government to shut down, and there doesn't seem to be an agreement between the two houses of  Congress and the President on the horizon.

Senate Democrats are poised to strip funding amendments from the bill, and send it back to the House, where they may either approve of it as is, or try another maneuver to put the chains on the current President's signature Health Care legislation.

Boehner would like to put the legislation on the back-burner for another year, as well as repealing the tax on medical devices, which is 2.3%.

Democrats seem to want to pin the blame of a shutdown solely on Republicans, while Obama and the Democrats don't want to negotiate at all on anything. Even with tons of cracks showing in the legislation. Even plenty of unions are up in arms over this law. They claim it will slash the traditional 40-hour workweek and the benefits that they currently enjoy. Everything isn't so neat, cut, and dry.

Why are Obama and the Democrats in such a rush to push this obviously-flawed, destructive piece of legislation forward? The warts are already showing. Is there a better, less expensive system that we can hem together? What are they not telling the general public that they should be aware of? Do we have other options? More tools in our toolbag? More ways to save money? More assets to be incorporated to cut bloated healthcare costs?

If so, shouldn't the WHOLE public be involved in the discussion before we rush forward?

Sen. Chuck Schumer claims "It is extortion. It's holding the good of the country - the economy, middle-class people at risk."

What's really extortion is holding the public hostage and obstructing an open and honest debate without all of the NEW facts out in the public view, so people can decide for themselves just what they really do or do not need, and what is actually necessary to meet the needs of the citizens of this country.

Extortion is holding people's paychecks hostage and blaming the other party because you are so hell bent on the law kicking into gear without open and honest debate, with the entire American populace tuned in and paying attention.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, Mr. Schumer.

The Spirit that resides within me has raised almost 20 persons from the grave.
Terminal and inoperable cancers are absolutely nothing.

Let's be totally frank.
You want to cut health care costs?
It is a gift from God.

Break it Down.

It's high time to tackle some important topics.
The first being sexual orientation, as a lack of knowledge and shoddy research has caused a lot of pain, strife, and misunderstanding.

Most research and scientific evidence points to the simple fact that sexual orientation is innate and inborn. Genetics may play a role (although there is no singular "gay gene"), but the most important factor seems to be prenatal hormones, and the effect they have on brain formation in the womb.

Unfortunately, some people have used scripture to wrongly promote the idea that your sexual orientation is something that can be changed; that it is a "choice." They've promoted the notion that it is unlike the color of your eyes, your height, or your skin color.

One passage commonly used to support that supposition would be Romans 12:2.
It reads, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

We must go line by line.
Precept by precept.

I always keep my "Strong's Exhaustive Concordance" (2010 edition) close by.
The definition of "is" is not even taken at face value, as you may gloss over something extremely noteworthy and edifying.

 

The word "anakainosis" in Greek is synonymous with "a renewal," and it means "the adjustment of the moral and spiritual vision and thinking to the mind of God, which is designed to have a transforming effect upon the life."

It has nothing to do with your being, but your thinking.
It doesn't mean that you are not a "real" Christian or that you have not been praying hard enough if your sexual orientation happens to be anything but heterosexual.

In other words, when you are born again, you gain a new perspective, and see things through the proper spiritual lens. As God wants you to see it.

Another commonly cited scripture would be 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.
It reads, "
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." Some have used this phrase to claim that these people who "have not prayed hard enough" will not ever receive salvation, and are doomed to an afterlife separated from the presence of God."Effeminate" here is representative of the Greek word "malakos."
In this instance, it conveys the message signifying "not simply of a male who practices forms of lewdness, but persons in general, who are guilty of addiction to sins of the flesh."

It is referring to the actions that one chooses to partake in, and nothing to do with ones masculinity or femininity. The passage has been mangled and misused to bash people, which is unfortunate. Only with the assistance of the Holy Spirit can one withstand temptation, and live a life that is pleasing to God. This is not to imply that you will never "mess up," or be perfect (I am certainly not implying that). But I am driving the point home that God loves us all, and to make people feel any worse off or "less than" compared to you and the things that you struggle with is not of God, and it is not Christlike. To single people out and have people jumping off of bridges because of your bigotry is unacceptable.

In reference to Romans 1:25-27, the word "change" in verse 26 is properly and more fully translated into Greek as "metallasso" It continues in the concordance, "This word means totally to surrender one thing for another, and exchange meaning a supposedly equivalent swap."

What does this definition outline?
The concept of Bisexuality.

It's not a new concept.

Furthermore,be encouraged with Romans 8:1, which reads, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."

Speaking of the Holy Spirit, I must make an important note that many people don't seem to be aware of.
That note would be the fact that the Holy Spirit is of the feminine gender.

Surprised?
What happened?

Research seems to point to the notion that it was the Greek Orthodox church that was responsible for obfuscating this fact in translation. The reason seems to be the fact that Gnostics of that time period were known to have large numbers of women in the ministry, which the Orthodox church did not approve of. Studying old manuscripts, it becomes obvious that Christ himself referred to the Holy Spirit as a "she," of feminine gender.

This makes sense, as creativity is considered a feminine trait, and the Spirit was directly involved in the creation of all that we see and know.

In the book of Genesis, it is conveyed that "
the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." Genesis 1:26-27 reads, " And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

God created man in the "image," or likeness, of God.
In other words, having both masculine and feminine traits.
This is clear and obvious even when we look at ourselves from a biochemical standpoint.
A man's hormonal makeup is not just comprised of testosterone, but also estrogen.
A woman's biological makeup consists of not only feminine hormones, but also male hormones.

Why is this?

Imagine trying to function with only the qualities of one gender.

If all I could do is grunt and smash rocks, I could never be self-sufficient for any period of time.
I simply couldn't last.
 

The feminine gender of the Holy Spirit brings together the complete picture of a family.

Father, Son, and Mother.

It just makes sense.

Stop the Madness.

Deuteronomy 14:22-28

I'm just going to start off with one single, salient point that I believe is important to know: I grew up in a very “legalistic” church from the days of my youth. In other words, if you had a beer, you were “backsliding,” and someone was off to get the anointing oil to pray for you. The whole “I don't drink, smoke, or chew, and I don't hang with those who do” type thing (Do be mindful of the company you keep, but that is beside the point here. Also, tobacco is horrible.).

Here's another good point to know.
I questioned this “legalistic” thinking pretty much from the get-go.

“If Jesus turned water into wine, you mean to tell me that I can't have a drink? How does that make any sense?”

It just didn't seem right.
And my instincts were backed up when I finally sat under a sermon concerning the Feast of Tabernacles (which is referenced in verses 22-27).

In addition to the first tenth (tithe) which went to the Levites (the priestly tribe), another tithe of your increase was to be set aside for special fellowship with God's people at given places at given times during the year. During these holy times, people came from all over, some bringing fruit, vegetables, oxen, and sheep amongst other things. Yes, “other things” sometimes included wine and liquor.

Why did/do people do these things?
The text already tells us.

“That thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.”
To remind us that God isn't a total killjoy.
He kind of got that rep for some reason.

I feel my spider sense tingling.
Someone out there is about to throw out 1 John 2:15-17.

“Man, those passages seem to contradict each other.”

No, they do not.
Pay attention.

First off, the Feast of Tabernacles, as stated, is a holy act of worship.
This is not the same situation mentioned or described in 1 John.
Not by a long shot.

Second of all, the “love” used in 1 John means “in a social or moral sense.”
As you would a living being, like God.

In their proper places, as responsible adults, there is nothing wrong with these substances.
You can like or enjoy a good Merlot but love God.
Got it?

I wanted to bring it back to verse 26 in Deuteronomy 14 KJV and the key word “whatsoever” (“whatever,” ESV)

Just for clarification.

Using such strong language in the literal sense would indeed conflict with other passages in the Bible, so I looked into the root of this word's presence in the text.

There is no corresponding word in Hebrew, so the translators decided to pick the word up and use it.

In keeping with the spirit (not the letter, obviously) of the text, with wine and liquor in the background (in addition to other things I know and have been told), is it a stretch to say that it'd be strange or outlandish to see an adult show up smelling like he just hunted, trapped, and bagged a skunk at one of these events?

Absolutely not.

Although the type of legalism I described above is a commandment taught of men, and is as filthy rags unto God, it may be this type of contortion, gaps in reasoning or logic, or (unintentional) dishonesty that sends many adolescents away from common sense and off the deep end when they do hit the age when they are able to make most of their decisions on their own.


Recreationally, I believe that marijuana should be treated like alcohol.
It also wreaks less havoc on the body.

Medicinally?

Don't even get me started on the DEA and its bold-faced lie of putting it in the same category as Heroin. It's an outright lie, and everyone knows it.

Let's ignore the evidence and case study after case study of it alleviating symptoms of nausea, MS, migraines, Alzheimer's, etc.

No medicinal benefit?

For chronic pain management, I guess we'd rather shove opiates down patients' throats.
Right?

The Mailbag.




First, I've decided to answer my first piece of "fan" mail.
Not just because it is good to give these people some airtime to make things interesting and "balanced," but because it sets a precedent on how I will deal with certain things in the future.

Names and locations have been changed, because, unlike others, I value some semblance of privacy and decency.

The rest of the content of the submitted editorial remains unaltered.


Easton: Look in Mirror
While Middleground school Superintendent Hank Easton complains annually for more money, his bank account sure doesn't. His overpriced, $250,000 salary could hire almost 10 new teachers for the Middleground School District.

School taxes have more than doubled over the past 10 years Easton has been in command. Although significant improvements have been made, is the school system twice as good? Not even close. Depending who you ask, the situation is worse, especially in terms of preparing students for college.

I hope one day Easton looks in the mirror and realizes how many foreclosures he has caused indirectly by not budgeting within the district's means, and that he himself has caused poverty in his own district that he uses as a perpetual soapbox to stand on.

No, Mr. Easton, asking the state or federal government for more money is not the answer. They will just raise taxes again themselves and make people even poorer as a result.

You can teach a kid high school kid algebra with a 99-cent notebook and a 25-cent pencil if the kid is interested, motivated, and the teacher is decent. High school education results are more of an American culture problem than a money problem.

The same could be said to the teacher's union and Mr. Easton. Stop being so greedy and think of all the great things we still have that others don't- before we don't.

I picked this particular missive for a reason: it is rife with so many misrepresentations and so much misinformation that I almost don't know where to start. I do, though. I'll address it point-by-point.

1) I used the opportunity offered to me to become a spy 4 years ago to expose misconduct, corruption, and to help bridge the partisan gridlock with workable, real solutions before the country reached the point of no return. This liaison/laser-like focus work was done on a volunteer basis. I am going to operationally define the word "volunteer" for you, so that you are no longer disoriented, get confused, or spread misinformation.

2) That being said, I always have, and still do "work for free." Any large sum of money coming my way is called "damages" for unethical, unwanted, invasive, and frankly inhumane treatment that I've had to deal with. It's as if I was just walking down the street to grab a hoagie at a place highly recommended by Person A, minding my own business, and was assaulted and had my clothes ripped off by Person B. Then, I was awarded damages. Then you have the gall to call me a stripper? If there's a better analogy, it escapes me. When you are hoodwinked, you are hoodwinked.

3) If I were greedy, I would have sued the pants off of the hospital I was admitted to last year when I had a near-lethal scrape with lithium toxicity and suffered physical trauma as result, just like everyone was telling me to. Alas, I didn't. It's called class. They deal with this stuff on a daily basis, and they are compassionate people. I'm sure it wasn't intentional. (I almost certainly would not have had that episode had I followed the doctor's instructions and stayed hydrated, but nearly unpredictable factors like a heat wave and a windowless room with no circulation created a perfect storm situation. As a matter of fact, I just plain stopped taking Lithium after this happened. Why? My family asked me to, and I honored that request.) I am alive, and I am thankful.

Also, you know what? I feel that I can give money away better than the government can. Especially to the poor, neighborhoods, schools, and causes that are near and dear to me.

My time to the sick and afflicted is priceless (Who can put a price on their health?), but it is free. There are few things in life that bring me more joy than petitioning the Lord on someone else's behalf for restored health. Or even bringing them back to their loved ones, and giving them a new lease on life.

I receive SSD benefits because I qualify for them (I wonder why?).
And guess what?
I ask not for another dime from the state.
In fact, I could repay it all and then some.

My complaint (Shared by many, it is almost unanimous.) is that "the rent is too damn high."
I don't care who you are, but $25 a week would have anyone a little miffed.

I am re-arranging my life to remedy this problem, and I'm surely not demanding anything more of the state.

4) You know just where to send your sour grapes about the "perpetual soapbox" that you complain about. Same place I did. Nothing changes. Unless you have some sort of hookup and can get it done immediately. Until then, you're just going to have to wait like everyone else. (Just so you know, this is MUCH, MUCH more than a soapbox, as I have told you before, and will show you again later. It's a tripod.)

Hopefully there will be less envy and cheap potshots against hardworking volunteers, because hopefully these bitter individuals will be prosperous in their own right. Why? Because that person they kept taking cheap shots at actually followed through and did the lion's share in pushing through meaningful change.

Now that I've got that out of the way, some useless/useful information that held some significance to me.

The other day, as I was going through a shoebox-sized plastic box of old mementos, including old pay stubs from McDonald's, old letters from my retired 5th grade teacher, and mix cd lists amongst other things, I found some old leftover patches and badges from my days in Scouts. I found my Quartermaster badge (Along with my previous position badges such as Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader.) I also found the only three merit badges I had earned, as I was mostly into it for the brotherhood and companionship. They were the Rifle, First Aid, and Citizenship in the World merit badges.

Interesting factoids.


Before I finish, it's time to get down to justification, or being seen right in the sight of God.
The first step is listening to Him.
Without it, it is a hopeless endeavor.
He is omnipotent, omnipresent, all-wise, doesn't play politics, doesn't form cliques, etc.
People do these things, not God.

Here, the Hebrew word for "name," "shem" (pronounced "shame") was given to be synonymous with "fame" or "reputation," according to Mr. James Strong's Biblical concordance. We could just as easily add "pull," "weight," "power", or "influence" here.

He is the Shepherd of my Soul.
He is in Paradise as we speak.
Notice that geographical boundaries do not stop him from carrying out the duties of a shepherd.
Nor does the world stop spinning simply because he is currently physically not with us.
He does not have to be.

His power and influence, even from a distance, is an unbelievably heavy burden.
Anyone speaking for him? They just might turn into a flamethrower.

Thread the Needle.

Several years back, at the end of my teen years, some friends and I decided to take a visit to the campus of a supposedly "haunted," abandoned residential institution for the physically and mentally disabled that has been shut down for almost two decades in upstate New York (It was shut down due to patient neglect amongst other unmentionable horrors. Sounds like a huge loss, bad publicity, and an even worse legacy). Although it was trespassing, there was little incentive to keep the curious adolescent away from the sprawling, lush grounds.

As my friends and I walked the paths and noticed details like the unlit lampposts that lined the paths, and the smaller buildings that must have been used for purposes other than housing the residents, our curiousity got the best of us. We spotted one small building about the size of a shed. The only thing keeping us out was a thin sheet of plywood. Nothing a crowbar couldn't fix.

We went inside with our flashlights, and found something shocking and disturbing.
One room was filled with cardboard boxes containing envelopes upon envelopes of personal, detailed medical logs.
I picked one out of a box in the dark at random, and took it home as a souvenir.
The resident's name was Ms. Katz, obviously an elderly Jewish woman.
It detailed at least a few months of her personal life, her activities, her well-being, etc.

One quote I can paraphrase from memory was "Ms. Katz went outside today, sat on the bench, and enjoyed the sunshine." Another line was indicating that she was not feeling well, and that her activity level had dropped.

Ironically, a few weeks back, I wasn't feeling too kosher.
Frankly, I was feeling extremely depressed, had no energy, and had trouble taking care of myself.
It was a victory for me to step outside and relax on the porch for a few hours, enjoying the sunshine and the summer breeze.

In other words, Ms. Katz and I ended up having more in common than I ever would have thought.


I am thoroughly reinvigorated.

"What's your major malfunction?"

Well, thankfully, I don't have one anymore.

Why was my mind so messed up, jumbled, and having such odd, anxiety-ridden, and sometimes seemingly contradictory things pop into my head?

Why was it so jacked up?

Why would the odd thoughts racing through my head seem to contradict the qualities and attributes described of me in scripture? 

(Well, first off, they are thoughts, not feelings. They contradict nothing. It is important to know the difference. I try to drown out all of the noise and concentrate but it is difficult sometimes.)

I know that God is not a man that he should lie.
You can take the scripture at its word.

So, what was going on?

Keeping that one metal album in my collection that was in direct contradiction to my moral and religious beliefs. Notice not every metal album had to go, even though I am not a humongous fan of metal. Just one. (God is indicating that although he has standards, too many people are hyper paranoid, superstitious, and restrictive.)

That album stuck around because, you know...I just had to have that really cool guitar riff at my fingertips when I felt like hearing it.

The Lord revealed to me that it did not belong, and I knew that it was the offending party, and that it had to go. I kind of wrestled with it, but what I didn't know was that it was causing me psychological unrest.

All it took was the click of a right mouse button, a deletion of a single album, and a cleared recycle bin and my brain began to function, miraculously, MUCH more smoothly.

The effect was immediate, as others would testify.
Maybe even you.

This brought my memory back to the story of Saul in 1 Samuel, where due to his flagrant disobedience, God allowed an "evil" (KJV) spirit to engage him (It can be equated to one that "causes physical harm," or one that "causes painful hardship." It doesn't necessarily mean "evil" in the sense that we think of it today, as some sort of influential malevolent force, although it can apply in that sense. It depends upon the individual, their tendencies, and their temperament.

I'm going to bring you back to present day, now.

I've been caused some "painful hardship" by God allowing me to be oppressed (not possessed, which is impossible after being born into God's family) due to my own iniquity. My personal tendencies? Major, major anxiety, my vulnerability which evil spirits were given free reign to prey upon due to my disobedience. And trust me, with you people yapping and saying all sorts of nonsense, I had a lot to ruminate over in that severely handicapped state of mind.

Without a malevolent bone in my body, it is the perfect time to remind people of the difference between thoughts and feelings.

It's called "anxiety."
Look it up.

I've been set free from this spirit that has caused such painful hardship in my life.
Boy, can appearances be deceiving!
That being said, God's word is trustworthy, not men.

What are some of the main reasons this has happened?
The first was to discipline me and bring me into compliance with my Lord.
Imagine an undisciplined loose cannon running around.

The next?

To offer yet another straw to those who might have been collecting them that the spiritual realm does in fact exist.

Bricks.

Romans 8:28-30




I'd like to delve into a spiritual concept for a moment.

There have been time periods in my life where things just didn't want to go correctly.
If I had put on Right Guard, it would have found a way to turn left.

It would seem like hurled bricks of difficulty, consequence, and pain would materialize out of thin air and smack me upside the head, repeatedly, for months on end.

It took me a while to catch on, but only later, did I realize that many times the results were due to my own decisions.

What can be gleaned from the scripture above is this much: as Christians, whether good, bad, or indifferent, all of our experiences and trials are used to mold, form, break, and re-shape us more into the image of God the Son, Jesus Christ. Teach us lessons or set things straight in our personal or spiritual lives. That is what the Christian life is about. It is a process.

In the heat of the moment, when things really suck, it is hard to keep the "this is happening for a reason" concept in mind. It hurts like the dickens. It's hard to concentrate on anything other than the fact that it feels like you've broken a shin bone.

That being said, I always repeat to myself that this suffering or this episode will bear good fruit for me spiritually, and I always aim to learn and grow from it.

He speaks.
It's just a matter of keeping an open ear.

The Stanford Prison Experiment.

The Stanford Prison Experiment, conducted Aug. 14, 1971- Aug. 20, 1971, funded by the US Office of Naval Research, and led by Psychology professor Phillip Zimbardo  is a notable case study in the "crowd," or "mob" psychology.

The setting?
The basement of the Stanford psychology building.

The main finding?
Even "normal", well-adjusted individuals can turn into monsters given the proper circumstances.

The experiment, set to last a period of 7 to 14 days, had to be cut short by the 6th day due to the latent sadistic tendencies elicited from within the guards, and the mental anguish that many of the prisoners were experiencing.

Overall, the findings turned my stomach, and provided much insight into just how inhumanely human beings can treat each other, and into the psychology of the "mob."
